Three Places to Assign, One Single Source

2. Calendar

Pick or reassign from the appointment modal or the event detail panel. Calendar color updates live.

3. Reports Page

Click any report row → More Options → Assign Inspector. Useful for batch-reassigning after an inspector leaves.

The Assignment Workflow, End to End

How one dropdown change ripples through your whole business.

1

Customer builds their quote

Customer enters property details on your widget. Your office sees the lead in start-now.php and picks an inspector from the dropdown — or leaves it blank to use the Primary default.

2

Quote PDF + email generates

PDF cover shows the assigned inspector's name, license, and photo. Quote email sends from [email protected] with Reply-To set to the assigned inspector's address.

3

Customer accepts, job scheduled

Customer replies from the PDF. Reply routes straight to the assigned inspector. Office books the appointment — calendar event renders with the inspector's color stripe.

4

Day-of changes? One click.

Josh got sick. Click the calendar event → Change inspector → pick Mary → Save. Calendar color updates to Mary's blue, the next reminder email uses Mary's signature, the day-of PDF signs as Mary.

Workflow FAQ

Common questions inspection firm owners ask about the assignment flow.

When during the workflow should I assign the inspector?

As early as possible — ideally during quote creation before the customer even accepts. This locks identity into the first PDF they see and the first email they receive. Late-stage reassignment works but creates more moving parts.

Does reassigning an inspector email the new assignee?

Optional. A "Notify Inspector" toggle on the assignment form controls whether the newly-assigned inspector gets an email with job address, time, and customer contact. Default is ON; turn it off for internal shuffling.

Can different inspectors handle different service lines on the same job?

Yes. For multi-service jobs (Buyer's Inspection + Radon + Sewer Scope), you can assign a primary inspector plus sub-contracted specialists via the Contractors section on the appointment detail. Each sub's fee tracks separately for profit calculation.

What if I assign an inactive inspector by mistake?

Not possible. The assignment dropdown only lists inspectors marked Active. If you deactivate someone who's already assigned to future jobs, those jobs stay assigned (history preserved) but you'll see a warning prompting reassignment.
